The Little Black Dress
See It
What to wear to a black tie event? How about an evening out with the girls or to that next hot date? Are you feeling a little bloated and need something slimming? Get yourself a little black dress. Everyone needs one. Everyone wants one, and everyone looks smashing in one. Find one that’s certain to break some necks.
Katy Rodriguez taffeta moire dress (left). Inspired by vintage designs, this glamorous silk moiré style is finished with dramatic ruffles. I like the high neckline, as it gives the dress a conservative look. But the ruffled sleeves give off a haute couture vibe without going too over the top.
Badgley Mischka Platinum Label’s velvet cocktail dress (middle) has a bold metallic band at the hem that gives this strapless velvet design an elegant edge. Try wearing this dress to a dinner party. While you’re seated, it looks simple and classic, but while standing, everyone’s eye will be drawn to the flashy hem.
Want a look that is sophisticated and feminine? Elijah’s twist shoulder shift dress (right) combines a greco-inspired top with a delicately pleated hem. Both the bodice and hem of this Italian wool jersey dress have an elegant asymmetry. It’s youthful but not overly sexual.
Want It
It’s back! Well, it never really left. The little black dress has been known as the safety net of evening wear. Now, it’s becoming a statement piece. No longer is wearing black boring. It’s timeless, elegant, and avant garde simultaneously. Every designer has their own take on the little black dress. They range from short and saucy numbers with jaw dropping necklines to floor length gowns worthy for the fanciest black tie gala. There’s one for every body type and every budget.
Wear It
Here are two of my favorites from the collection at Saks.com:
You’ll have Diane von Furstenberg’s tere tuxedo dress (left) forever. This jersey strapless design has a tux-inspired cummerbund adorning its Empire waist. Pair it with a cashmere sweater draped across your shoulders or a short, fitted jacket and an up-do for a more professional look. This is a style that never goes out of fashion.
Something classic from Juicy Couture? I know. I was surprised too. But this crewneck sequin tunic (right) is so versatile. Wear it with sexy black heals and a crocodile clutch for evening or tights, ankle boots, and huge shades for day. Two outfits in one for less than $200? That’s a steal. It also comes in white with silver sequin trim.
Fancy Flats

Valentino’s signature skimmers made of metallic silver fabric with Swarovski crystals must have been inspired by Cinderella’s very own glass slippers:
Want It
What to wear with skinny jeans? Fancy flats. What to wear with metallic minis? Fancy flats. Bored with flat shoes? Fancy flats to the rescue!
I’m really tall for a girl, so I need a shoe that doesn’t leave me towering over guys as they hit on me at a bar. Heals always leave my feet in so much pain. Whenever I go to a dance party, all the girls end up taking off their shoes that usually compliment their outfit. I need something functional and fashionable. Fancy flats are perfect for any occasion. They dress up any boring work suit and instantly glamorize a pair of jeans. Opt for pointed flats with pants and rounded flats with skirts. Loud prints, sequins, and rhinestones are popping up all over footwear this fall. Since there isn’t any heal to wear down, they’ll last longer too.
Wear It
A selection of some of my favorite fancy flats:
The Pelle Monda’s ‘zenity’ flat (left) has a shaped, skimmer cut and a low, covered heal that gives it a youthful edge. The leopard print looks great with denim, but try not to mix it with other loud colors or prints.
Want a flat to wear to work and a dinner party? Kate Spade’s ‘peggy’ flat (middle) is your shoe! It comes in black, red, and navy. While the cut is simple and classic, the frayed bow and satin make this shoe fancy and fun.
If ice princesses were shopping for flats, they’d buy Stuart Weitzman’s ’slipper’ flat (right) in silver specchio. This sleek, pointed-toe ballerina flat features a fun Dalmation-print lining. Try wearing them with your fave dress instead of stappy heals.

The Jamison Cashmere Banded Hem Sweater (left) feels fresh in a fashion-forward, feminine shape. The luxe cashmere is soft to the touch and carries some catchy design details with ribbed banding at the scoop neck and ruching at the bust and back. The elastic banding certainly helps the traveler constantly on the go.
A pair of Genetic Denim Jeans (middle) certainly answers that question of what to wear when traveling. The tailored straight leg jeans make for a sexy fit and feature double-helix embroidery on the back and coin pockets.
Complete your outfit with a sturdy pair of Frye boots (right). While you will certainly need to slip them off at the security check, the timeless cool style of Frye fits all your travel needs.
